Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about the gst calculator answered.
What are the GST slabs in India?+
India has four main GST slabs: 5% for essential goods and food items, 12% for processed foods and standard goods, 18% for most services and electronics, and 28% for luxury goods and automobiles. Some goods are exempt (0%) including fresh food and educational services.
How do I remove GST from a price?+
To remove GST from a GST-inclusive price: Net Price = Inclusive Price divided by (1 + GST Rate/100). For example, to remove 18% GST from Rs 1,180: Rs 1,180 / 1.18 = Rs 1,000 net price, Rs 180 GST. Our calculator does this automatically.
What is CGST and SGST?+
For intra-state transactions, GST is split equally between Central GST (CGST) and State GST (SGST). An 18% GST charge means 9% CGST + 9% SGST. For inter-state supplies, Integrated GST (IGST) at the full rate applies instead.
When should I use 18% vs 28% GST?+
18% GST applies to most services, restaurant meals, electronics, and many manufactured goods. 28% GST applies to luxury cars, motorcycles above 350cc, tobacco, aerated drinks, casinos, and certain luxury goods. Always verify the HSN/SAC code for exact classification.
